Remember when a doe-eyed 15 year-old named Brandy Norwood took over the music scene circa 1994? Who didn't "Wanna Be Down" with the honey-voiced beauty and her stylish box braids. No doubt, Brandy took braids to a whole new level and every other brown-skinned adolescent girl in America followed suit. I'm not going to lie. I remember rewinding her video to "Sitting Up In My Room" 100 times just so I could bite her hairstyle and wear it to school the next day. As you can see from the pic, it was a bit much. For this reason, box braids soon faded out and microbraids quickly took over as the preferred choice of braided hairstyles.

I was the ultimate Brandy fan as a kid but my parents were hesitant to let me get braids. But finally relented and boy, oh boy did I rock the heck out of those things! LOL.
